Black Tourmaline
Also called schorl, black tourmaline is perhaps the most-recommended protection stone in modern crystal practice. It is believed to absorb and transmute 'negative' energy, which is why many people keep it by the front door or at the four corners of a room.

How people use it
Placed by an entryway or desk, carried in a pocket in crowded places, or set at the feet during meditation.
Care & cleansing
Usually fine with brief rinsing; avoid soaking raw pieces with cracks. Cleanse regularly, since tradition says it 'collects' what it absorbs.
General cleansing methods from the Picker's Rock beginner's guide: running water, moonlight, selenite bowls and brief sunlight. Read the guide.
