Hematite
An iron oxide whose name comes from the Greek for 'blood', because it streaks red when scratched. Roman soldiers are said to have rubbed it on their bodies before battle. In crystal tradition it is the classic grounding stone, believed to pull scattered energy back down into the body.

How people use it
Held in each hand while sitting with feet flat on the floor, or worn as a bracelet during busy or 'heady' days.
Care & cleansing
Keep it dry: hematite can rust. Cleanse with smoke, sound or a selenite plate instead of water.
General cleansing methods from the Picker's Rock beginner's guide: running water, moonlight, selenite bowls and brief sunlight. Read the guide.
